Cobblestone Square Condominiums was a joint venture between The Garrett Companies and K. Hovnanian Homes of Virginia. Located within short walking distance of both the downtown commercial area and the Virginia Rail Express (VRE) Station, the community consists of 84 finished condominium units and an apartment designation that was subsequently sold. Amenities included (i) a clubhouse and fitness center to be located in a renovated freight depot building built in 1910, (ii) a landscaped pool area, (iii) a ten-acre passive nature park with walking trails on Hazel Run, (iv) the first stage of a pedestrian and bicycle rails-to-trails system situated in a linear park that connects downtown with various NPS and City parks, (v) a grand entrance over a renovated railroad truss bridge, and (vi) a sound wall to buffer the community from the railroad line.
Individual condominium units ranged in size from 806 to 1,656 square feet. Attractive floor plans included open living and kitchen areas, lofts, nine-foot and vaulted ceilings, fireplaces, trim packages, and various finish-out and appliance upgrade selections.
The balance of the project was sold in 2008 to Home Properties for construction of a 316 unit apartment complex.
