Andrew S. Garrett
PRESIDENT
Andy Garrett initially founded Garrett Development Corporation (“GDC”) and began building custom homes in Northern Virginia in 1987. Having achieved a high level of success in the home building industry, he ventured into residential lot development during the early 1990’s and later into commercial property development during the late 1990’s. Mr. Garrett’s abilities to both identify viable development opportunities and develop a variety of product types have resulted in GDC becoming a recognized leader in land and commercial development in the Northern Virginia area. Mr. Garrett continually expanded GDC's business base to its present status as The Garrett Companies by assembling a strong team to carry out his vision and simultaneously to provide investors with optimal returns at minimal risk.
Mr. Garrett received his Bachelor and Master of Accountancy from the University of Mississippi in 1983 and 1984, respectively. He subsequently joined Arthur Anderson and Company’s tax department in Houston, Texas. He gained his initial experience in the real estate sector by way of employment with the Cafritz Group in Washington, DC and Weichert Realty of Virginia.
Mr. Garrett has served on the boards of various nonprofit organizations such as the Fredericksburg Area Museum the Washington Airports Task Force. He supports numerous charitable and nonprofit organizations.
Mark Bowman
VICE PRESIDENT & GENERAL COUNSEL
Mr. Bowman studied Business Administration with a concentration in Management at Colorado State University, receiving a Bachelors of Science in 2002. He subsequently attended Drake University Law School and graduated with honors in December 2004. After working for a general practice firm where he focused primarily on construction defect litigation, Mark joined The Garrett Companies in 2006. He currently oversees all legal matters, manages external counsel, and facilitates all aspects of our The Garrett Companies’ land development operations.
Mr. Bowman is a member of the bar in Colorado, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., as well as the following professional associations and memberships: American Bar Association, Colorado Bar Association, DC Bar, Virginia State Bar, Virginia Bar Association and Fredericksburg Area Bar Association. He is active within the community coaching youth soccer and working with other local organizations such as the SPCA, Big Brothers, and Habitat for Humanity.
Rebecca Stack
CONTROLLER
Ms. Stack studied Accounting at the University of Maryland, receiving a Bachelors of Science in 2007. Prior to joining The Garrett Companies, she worked as a tax accountant for five years at a large regional public accounting firm. With a focus in partnership tax, she primarily served clients in the real estate industry. Rebecca consulted with real estate clients on general tax planning, transaction structuring and the technical review of complex partnership returns. She was also a member of the Mergers and Acquisition Services group where she focused on managing both buy-side and sell-side tax due diligence.
Ms. Stack focuses on reviewing and maintaining accurate financial statements, along with tax compliance, cash management, budgeting, transaction planning and tax savings strategies.
